I have been using facebook for a very long time now. Me and all my mates regularly get on there for a chat and even sometimes to exchange files, if they are not too big. We have all started to use facebook as our email centre and have even closed down our email addresses. It is quite convenient to have all your friends close by to message with a few clicks of a button. The only thing I hate is that all of my extended friends that I don’t even know can see my wall, which were not intended for them.
Anyway I have a lot of fun on facebook and sometimes even spend up to 3 hours a day on facebook, just chatting to my friends and reading everyone’s funny facebook statuses. After a while I usually get bored with facebook and start to look for other things to do online.

One thing that I like to do in my spare time is learn how to use new computer programs. With as popular as the internet is, it is easy to find new programs to play with. There are programs that do all sorts of things and they certainly can make life easier. My boyfriend is the one who initially got me interested in doing fun things with the computer. It was fun to learn how to use photography software and such and I really enjoy music software too. I used DUBTurbo last weekend and was really amazed with what the program could do. I think I will probably use it again in the future. I do not personally do a lot of dub work myself, but I know people who do and I can reccommend it. I am going to look for a few new programs to try this coming weekend when I have nothing else to do.

The date has been set and the invitation list has been finalized. Not All Cartoon Movies Are for Kids
I was watching The Brave Little Toaster with my nephew the other day and it made me realize that some cartoons are just too scary and violent for kids. It actually surprises me that certain cartoons are marketed towards younger children but the content is definitely too mature for them. It makes me mad because the producers could easily change things around so certain characters aren’t so scary. But instead, they feel compelled to freak little kids out.
Sometimes I do think the “scarier” scenes do make sense. For example, there is a scene in “Nemo” where the big shark pretends to bite at Marlin and Dori. He gives this huge grin and you can see all his shark teeth. I’ve heard lots of stories of little kids crying when they saw that (especially in the movie theater because the screen is so big) but the movie just wouldn’t be the same without it.

Cordelia and I are huge music fans. We never just listen to what everyone else is listening to. We have this thing called taste.
One of our favorite songs to listen to after school right now is Birdy 1901. It’s so mellow and beautiful. I don’t know why everyone likes music that’s loud and obnoxious. I always try to appreciate the musical artists that focus on their emotions and making something memorable. To me, singers like Birdy inspire me in my every day life to remember to keep the highest goals and ideals in mind. I wonder what the loud, obnoxious music inspires people to do. Probably to get in fights!
We’re having a sleepover this weekend and it’s going to be so much fun. I’m glad that I met a friend like Cordelia with taste like me. I thought I never would meet anyone interesting at this new school, but I was wrong.

Ego and My New Dog
I recently got a new dog. Well, he’s a puppy actually. My wife and I have been arguing about what to call him. It’s a funny thing, trying to work out a name for a new dog. I suppose it’s going to be a good dry run for when we have kids. Some people seem to be pretty apathetic when it comes to working out a name but I think that’s a mistake. I mean, for a start you’re going to have to use that name every time you call your dog (or son or daughter) and you don’t want to use the name for a few weeks only to discover that you don’t like it or worse think it’s dumb or something. So I’ve been really trying to put some thought into it and I came up with a short list, but what swayed me in the end to my final choice was reading a recent article in Time magazine. It talked about how dogs were often an extension of the owner’s psyche. The author said it was like it’s part of human nature. I remember reading elsewhere on the internet about this sort of stuff and that it was all part of the human condition. I won’t rehash the whole thing here, but I trust you get an idea of where it was heading. So that’s what made me think of ego. Not just my ego, but the name ego, like “Here boy, here ego. Good ego, good boy”.
I guess you can imagine that my wife wasn’t thrilled with the idea, but she’s starting to warm up to the idea. Whenever we have an “adult discussion” (read: argument) she eventually gets to calling me an egocentric fart (which upsets me a bit since I try to keep most of my flatulence silent). And though none of us like to admit it, we can be pretty egocentric at times. So I figured that calling my new dog Ego would be a pretty cool way of diffusing my wife’s slander and of being able to shift the focus away from me and onto ego. I’ve even had little day dreams of being with the guys and being able to say “My ego’s in really good shape” or “I’m teaching my ego to behave”.
What’s a bit ironic is that I worked out the name after I got the dog. So I’m pretty happy now that I didn’t pick a poodle or a chiwawa. I’m also pretty happy that I didn’t pick one of those massive dogs that short little men who drive Ferraris gets, like a Doberman or Rottweiler. Can you imagine one of those guys strutting down the street yelling out “Ego, don’t poop there!”
So now I’ve got to start thinking about doggie lessons and the like, and immunisations and stuff. And in my quieter moments I suppose I’ll be thinking about Ego’s name and whether there’s any truth in that Ego is and extension of my ego and psyche, but I won’t try too hard.
